I'm going to be working on a cube for the club filled with non-proxies and proxies. The proxies will mostly be expensive things like lands and other fun cards. I picked up basics tonight and I'm going to work on the cube, but we need things like sleeves. Basically I'll try to make it so that we'll have a fun cube available with some premade optimal lists for drafting, but if people starting out need/want to they can try building their own deck (assuming the cards are available for use at the time).
So to answer the question you probably have; what is a cube, and how does one draft it? You draft these cards like you do with boosters but they start in piles instead of actual packs. The point of this draft though is for the drafting experience, building fun and crazy awesome things. It's basically how cool of a deck can I make that actually works?
I'll keep this thread up to date and alive until we move sites.
[EDIT]: I added a poll so people can choose the direction I go with the cube if they so desire.

Note: Many things may be upgraded to the more powerful versions in the future. This is just a temp trying to get numbers right and such draft that will continue to be updated. This is nowhere near complete. What I've got so far (either proxied or real):
Lands: -Library of Alexandria -Mishra's Workshop -Underground Sea -Plateau -Volcanic Island -Tropical Island -Taiga -Badlands -Scrubland -Tundra -Bayou -Savannah
Artifacts: 1 -Bonesplitter 2 -Isochron Scepter 3 -Burnished Hart 7 -Myr Battlesphere
Red: 1 -Seal of Fire -Lightning Bolt -Skitter of Lizards -Goblin Arsonist 2 -Torch Fiend -Grenzo's Cutthroat -Pyroclasm
Green: 1 -Exploration -Skyshroud Elite -Wasteland Viper -Experiment One -Wild Nacatl 2 -Silhana Ledgewalker -River Boa -Wall of Roots -Garruk's Companion
Blue: 1 -Phantasmal Bear -Jaces Phantasm -Delver of Secrets 2 -Azure Mage -Voidmage Apprentice -Omenspeaker -Cyclonic Rift -Counterspell
Black: 1 -Tormented Soul -Typhoid Rats -Diregraf Ghoul 2 -Blind Creeper -Smallpox
White: 1 -Boros Elite -Doomed Traveler 2 -Apostle's Blessing -Wall of Omens -Keening Apparition -Veteran Armorer 3 -Lingering Souls
Multicolored 4 - Ghor-Clan Rampager
I will be having a vote whether we believe we should have duplicates or not. Depending on the vote is whether or not we shall add in certain conspiracies. Below is a list of the ones I have currently.

I think a starter cube for people who haven't cube yet would be a good start, plus it's cheap and when we get more money we can do a power cube

There'd also be a few things like the swords and show and tell and sneak attack will be in along with things like Emrakul, the Flying Spaghetti Monster. which we wouldn't be able to afford normally xD As for simplicity, things like Grand Abolisher, and other things that lead to simple decks would be involved still, it just wouldn't be entirely core set simplicity. Not to try to push you either way, just try to clarify.

A proxied power cube sounds fun.*
*I have never done a draft, cube or otherwise and would more than likely lose but still sounds fun.

Takes a good deal of practice to get good at it, but you should still have fun with the decks even if you're not experienced. It really helps with deck building and playing skills too imo. Besides I'll prob write some guide up for new drafters as well xD

As decks get more powerful, the difference in good and bad deckbuilding or plays becomes more visible. In a regular draft, your 23rd card doesn't really matter too much when it's a toss up between rod of ruin or rootwalla, nor your turn 4 play when you mulled to 5 after two no-landers, keeping a four-lander and top decking 3 lands.

Dude rootwalla too stronk. The bad choice is between Aladdin's Ring, or Rod of Ruin.

Are we going to add our own cards to the cube? I know people who keep a community cube, but for a power-cube in a college club, it might end up just all proxies.

Are we going to add our own cards to the cube? I know people who keep a community cube, but for a power-cube in a college club, it might end up just all proxies. It depends. Starting out it'll probably mostly be proxies and stuff I have laying around, because I'm building it and I don't have the budget to throw go out and buy stuff. If people are willing to throw in stuff that'd be awesome, and would help out a lot since it is essentially a community cube. I know I'll throw in some cheaper stuff for it, and make some oracle text proxies, but it really depends. If I'm the only one funding this (aka no club funding) I'll prob end up taking apart a ton of decks and just holding onto it and bringing it with me and have people who borrow from me. I'd hope I could get at least club funding for the sleeves or something :/ I only have a limited number of sleeves, and the ones I have get expensive real fast... Also if people are worried about losing the cards; we can make a sign in sheet for who's in charge of the cube it might make people feel safer about throwing in their own real stuff, but really that's one of the things we'll have to discuss here. I'm alright with all/mostly proxies if it's going to be left at the school, especially for starting out. Having real cards is awesome but it's mostly gonna be donation basis unless we work out a system otherwise xD Since it's going to be the club's cube though (assuming everything works out), it should be okay.

I like the power cube idea. My theory on proxies though is that if you do them and you have them at least make them good.
